Stormwater Master Plans

Stormwater Master Planning is a term that has come to mean a wide variety of things.  Municipalities often prepare stormwater master plans in order to identify and budget for future stormwater projects. Since there are no requirements or regulatory agency overseeing stormwater master planning, these plans can be tailored to meet the needs of the local municipality.

The USEPA has released a draft guide, Community Solutions for Stormwater Management: A Guide for Voluntary Long-Term Planning, to assist local governments to develop and implement effective long-term stormwater plans.

Through this approach, communities can prioritize and budget stormwater studies, infrastructure improvements, and other expenses as part of capital improvement plans or other planning efforts.
